Exciting Things
that Happen in My
Class:
Bible:
Daily we search
the scriptures
to learn what
God has to teach
us. The
kindergarten
class hears the
stories in the
Old and New
Testaments and
seek how we can
apply them to
our lives
today. For
memory verses,
the children
learn 26 verses
(A to Z), Psalm
100, Luke
2:8-14, and The
Lord's Prayer.
Reading:
Using a phonic
based
curriculum, the
kindergarten
class begins
learning the
five short vowel
sounds. Adding
two consonants
per week and
blending with
the vowels, the
children are
reading three
letter words by
Christmas. In
January, Miss
Muffet helps
instruct the
long vowel sound
and the children
are reading
thousands of
words by June.
Number
Skills: The
kindergarten
class uses
games,
manipulatives,
and hands-on
activities to
learn colors,
shapes, and
numbers. By the
end of the
school year we
are counting
1-100 by 1's,
5's, and 10's.
Monthly
Themes:
Social Studies
and Science
subjects are
taught with
monthly themes.
Using
literature,
children's
books,
experiments and
hands-on
activities, the
children explore
the world God
has created.
For a list of
the themes,
contact Mrs.
Lowe.
Fieldtrips:
Kindergarten
went to the
Bloomsburg Fair
in September.
It was the
beginning of our
monthly
fieldtrips. We
also will be
visiting a local
nursing home,
learning to use
crosswalks in
town, go
bowling, and
visit the
Philadelphia
Zoo.
Programs:
The
kindergarten
class will
present a
Thanksgiving
program at 1:00
pm, Tuesday,
November 21,
2006. During
December, the
kindergartners
and their
parents will be
supporting a
missionary
project. At
Kindergarten
Graduation, 7:00
pm, Tuesday,
June 6, 2006,
the class will
present a
special program
including "The
Little Red Hen"
musical. For
additional
information,
call CCCS at
784-2977.
